2017 Ploughing Match results

This year’s annual ploughing match took place at Butt Lane, North Chideock by kind permission of Mr & Mrs Howard Coates of Chideock Manor.  Tim Frampton, Hedging and Ploughing chairman for the Society commented ‘All classes were well supported, and it was excellent to see a number of  new ploughmen competing.   The competition was fierce and the standard very high in all classes’.

The judges were Mr Robert Dimond, Mr Michael Hole, Mr Jerry Simpson and Mr Giles Simpson.  The prizes were given out by our President, Mr Ralph Newman,  who thanked everyone for taking part, the judges for giving up their time, the spectators who came to watch and gave special thanks to Mr & Mrs Coates of Chideock Manor for letting the Society hold the event at such a spectacular venue.

Alongside the ploughing match, spectators took the opportunity to ‘have-a-go at ploughing with Matt, children took part in a scarecrow competition and also enjoyed the activities provided in the Discover Farming Tent.  A tractor and trailer gave free rides to the annual hedge laying competition taking place across the A35 on National Trust land.
