Preparations for 2009 Show
ImageThe arrangements for this year’s Melplash Show, taking place at the Showground, West Bay, Bridport on Thursday 27th August, are well in hand.  The livestock, equine, horticultural, floral and handicraft competitions are planned and the schedules are ready.  The main ring attractions are booked.  This year visitors will be entertained by a spectacular air display by The Yakovlevs, who will be thrilling the audience with their tight formations, graceful aerobatic manoeuvres and death defying head to head passes,  and a ‘Wild West Show’ which takes inspiration from accounts of the Buffalo Bill Congress of Rough Riders during the 1880s.

The South Wests Premier Agricultural Show

Regarded as the premier Agricultural Show in the South West and attracting over 15000 visitors it truly is an opportunity for the community to celebrate and showcase the best of agricultural, food and rural life by the Sea in West Dorset.  Now is the time for local people to get involved by taking a trade stand or entering one of the many show competitions.

Trade stand space still available

Trade stand space is available both inside and outside from as little as £100 for the day and gives businesses a unique opportunity to display and sell their products and services. Trade stand forms. As well as the usual excellent craft and food hall, we are this year introducing a new ‘By the Sea’ Marquee to provide visitors with a chance to discover more about life by the sea.  To start us off, The Riverside Restaurant at West Bay have kindly agreed to sponsor a Fish Soup competition, first prize being £100 voucher to dine at the Riverside and the chance to have your soup on their menu. Other guest appearances will be from local celebrity chefs – Mark Hix who will be signing copies of his cookery book and Master Chef Winner 2009 Matt Follas.

Pre-Show Competitions

The competitions begin with the pre-show events.  Starting with The Gardens Competition, an excellent opportunity for local gardeners to be rewarded for all their hard work, the three categories are small, medium and large gardens, the closing date is 4th June and the judging will take place on 10th and 11th June.   Followed closely by the Farm and Flocks Competitions, which will be judged during the week starting 22nd June, and the stock judging competition for Young Farmers which takes place in the evening of 22nd June.
