Young Farmers Stock Judging

cattle A team from Wedmore Young Farmers has taken the top award in this year’s Melplash Agricultural Society’s Young Farmers Dairy Stock Judging Competition kindly hosted this year by the Crutchley family in their new dairy at Marsh Farm, Nettlecombe, and kindly sponsored by Synergy Farm Health Ltd, Crewkerne.

Letter from Nigel Jones, Show Chairman

Nearly 6 months have elapsed since I was elected as Chairman of the Show and as we speed through June things are coming to a head and the realisation that the Show is only some 8 weeks away becomes a stark reality.

Garden Competition

Veg The annual Melplash Agricultural Society’s Garden Competition once again provided an opportunity for gardeners in the area to gain recognition for their gardens. Although the entries were slightly down this year, 17 people entered the competition divided into three categories, large, medium and small. The judging took place on 15/16th June, and was judged by last year’s overall winner, and winner of the large garden category, Mr Brian Prentice of Litton Cheney, together with Mr Philip Symes.

In closing my two years in office, I would like to review the progress made in that time. The biggest single step was incorporation, but I am glad that this has now been achieved. The removal of the prospect of huge financial burden on individuals is a great relief. I thank particularly, Nigel Jones and Sharyn Brown for their hard work in pushing this through.
