Visitors to the woodcraft marquee at this year’s Melplash Show are in for a real treat. There will be a variety of local craftsmen giving demonstrations throughout the day, including a wood turner, wood carver, walking stick maker, rocking horse maker, pole lathe turner, marquetry, pyrography and a fret worker. There will also be displays by members of the Yeovil & District Men’s Shed and the newly formed Crewkerne & District Men’s Shed Groups. The members will be available to tell you all about their Group and the benefits of joining.
It is also the home of the annual Melplash Agricultural Society’s woodworking competitions. Woodcraft Chairman, Peter Wheeler, explains: “The competitions are open to amateurs and hobby workers of all ages. There are seven classes: article of choice, marquetry, hand-carved item, turned item, item containing pyrography, fretwork/scroll work, and the pallet project – an item made from recycled wood. Cash prizes of £15, £10 and £5 are given to winners of each class. The article considered by the judges to be the best in show, irrespective of the class, will be awarded the coveted Parnham Trophy. It is only £1 to enter, and if you enter 8 items you will also receive free admission to the Melplash Show worth £16!”
The closing date for entries is Monday 14th August at 5pm.
