Bursary Student – Pamela Sibley

pam sibleyEach year the Melplash Agricultural Society offers bursaries to students aged 18 years and over who are planning to pursue courses in subjects connected to agriculture.  Students of agriculture, forestry, horticulture or any closely allied topic could be eligible for up to £1000 per annum.  The financial support will be extended throughout the successful student’s course provided they receive a satisfactory annual report from college or university.

Pamela Sibley from Beaminster received a Bursary from the Melplash Agricultural Society throughout her four years studying to become a Vet at Liverpool University.  Pamela qualified in 2013 and is now working at Girling and Bowditch in Beaminster.

“I am very grateful to the Melplash Agricultural Society for all the support they gave me.  With rising tuition fees financing education is becoming a struggle for many students across the country. It is good to know that there are local societies offering help.  The Melplash Agricultural Society kindly supported me through four years of veterinary medicine at the University of Liverpool.  The vet med course is an intensive programme with a full time study base not allowing much time to earn any pocket money!  The bursary has allowed me to fund transport and living costs whilst seeing practice which is a large part of this course.  Throughout the four years I had to complete 52 weeks of extramural studies, this included working on various different farms from dairy to poultry and work shadowing at several different practices.  I very much enjoyed my time as a student and am very grateful for the support I have received.  I am now working at Girling and Bowditch vets in Beaminster where I am putting all of the theory I have learnt over the years into practice!”

Those eligible to apply must live within a 12 mile radius of the village of Melplash and the closing date is 1st July each year.
