Competitions for all!

One of the main highlights of the annual Melplash Agricultural Show are the competitive classes.

At the heart are the many classes in place to enable local farmers and breeders to showcase what they do and their husbandry skills.  Giving visitors to the show the rare opportunity to see the best cattle, sheep, goats, pigs and horses in the area and to enjoy watching them being judged and awarded prizes.

Alongside is a full programme of competitions for the whole family to take part in.  Most hobbies and interests are covered –  gardening, flower arranging, cookery, wine and cider making, handicrafts, photography, art, beekeeping, woodcraft and rural crafts.    There are many children classes for under 7’s, 7-10 years and 11-15 years, all are free to enter.  This year they include a miniature farm made in a seed tray, a decorated welly boot, a picture made from buttons or beads to name just a few.

Winner of 2017 allotment class Bryony Medus.

Prior to the Show are five major competitions.  The Gardens and Allotments competition open to residents within a 12 mile radius of Melplash Village Church.  Judging takes place on 19th and 20th June; the Farm and Flocks competition open to local farmers. Judging takes place during June.  Rural Craft Competition open to businesses based within a 20 mile radius of Melplash Village Church and Young Farmers Dairy Stock Judging open to local Young Farmers Clubs.

The competition schedules are available to view on our website or can be picked up at the Show Office, 23 South Street, Bridport.  Entries can also be made on-line.
