Jade is studying to be a vet at Surrey University. She has received the Society Bursary since starting her course.
“I am just about to start my 3rd year studying Veterinary Medicine at the University of Surrey based in Guildford. It had been a long-term goal to be a vet, and I am loving my studies so far!
Having grown up on our family dairy farm in West Dorset, I have always been around animals. I helped with many jobs on the farm, and still do when at home, particularly with stock management and milking. I was always intrigued when the vet came to do routine visits or various operations on our cows over the years. I am also particularly interested in preventative medicine and how this can improve farm profitability. I pushed myself in school and A levels so that I had a chance of getting into university.
I am very gratefully for the Melplash Agricultural Society Bursary that has been offered to me whilst I have been studying. It has helped me hugely, with my course and accommodation costs at university, as well as transport to placements during the holidays to improve my knowledge in the veterinary industry – I am planning to do an Artificial Insemination (AI) and foot trimming course soon which will assist me in my career.
Once qualified it is my ambition to return to the family dairy farm to work and to take responsibility for the veterinary aspects in-house.
