2012 Melplash Show - Thursday 23rd August
The Showcase for West Dorset farmers & food producers in Bridport, Dorset
The Melplash Agricultural Show takes place at the Showground, West Bay, Bridport on Thursday 23rd August. Attracting around 16,000 visitors a year from town and country, it is no surprise that it is regarded as the South West’s Premier one day Agricultural Show, and is known by regular visitors as the ‘friendly’ Show.

Each year the Melplash Agricultural Society offers a grant to a student aged 18 years and over who is planning to pursue courses in subjects connected to agriculture. Students of agriculture, forestry, horticulture or any closely allied topic who live within a 12 mile radius of Melplash could be eligible for a bursary up to £1000 per annum. We were delighted to award the 2011 bursary to six local students.
Heavy Horses in all their finery at the Melplash Agricultural Show are always a popular sight and are going to be even more so this year as visitors to the Show are going be able to enjoy a very rare treat. As well as being able to see these magnificent horses in the Show classes, the Melplash Agricultural Society is very pleased to announce that they have arranged for local farmer, Randy Hiscock, to put together a main ring exhibition of heavy horses in both agricultural and trade turnouts. Randy Hiscock with his Suffolk Punch heavy horses - an old English breed of draught horse always chestnut in colour - is a regular in the showing classes at the Melplash Show and other Shows around the country. He owns one of the largest and oldest Suffolk studs outside the breed’s home county, at Donhead St Mary, Dorset
