Young Farmers Stock Judging |

 Over 22 Young Farmers from Beaminster, Marshwood Vale, Wells & Glastonbury and Wedmore Clubs competed in this year’s Melplash Agricultural Society Stock Judging competition, held at Pilsdon Dairy Farm by kind permission of the Bugler Family. This annual Dairy Stock Judging competition was sponsored by The Kingfisher Veterinary Practice, Crewkerne, and judged by Mr Stephen Green from Salisbury.

Preparations for 2009 Show |
 The arrangements for this year’s Melplash Show, taking place at the Showground, West Bay, Bridport on Thursday 27th August, are well in hand. The livestock, equine, horticultural, floral and handicraft competitions are planned and the schedules are ready. The main ring attractions are booked. This year visitors will be entertained by a spectacular air display by The Yakovlevs, who will be thrilling the audience with their tight formations, graceful aerobatic manoeuvres and death defying head to head passes, and a ‘Wild West Show’ which takes inspiration from accounts of the Buffalo Bill Congress of Rough Riders during the 1880s. |

 A new competition for 2009 generously sponsored by Mr and Mrs Watson of The Riverside Restaurant, West Bay, Bridport. In our new ‘By-the-Sea’ marquee. First Prize is a £100 voucher for The Riverside Restaurant. The winning soup will also go onto The Riverside menu and the possibility of all entries going into a recipe leaflet.

Origins of The Melplash Show |
 The Melplash Agricultural Society Show is the South West's premier agricultural exhibition and is held at The West Bay Showgrounds, Bridport, Dorset on last Thursday before the August Bank holiday. The first show was held in 1847. |

The Melplash Agricultural Society is pleased to announce that, from this September 2008, it is offering a grant of £1,000 to a Student aged 18 years and over who is planning to pursue courses in subjects connected to Agriculture. Students of agriculture, forestry, horticulture or any closely allied topic could be eligible for the £1000 per annum bursary. Read More... |
