2FM_5917The Melplash Agricultural Show takes place at the Showground, West Bay, Bridport on Thursday 22nd August 2013.   Attracting around 18,000 visitors a year from town and country, it is no surprise that it is regarded as the South West’s Premier one day Agricultural Show, and is known by regular visitors as the ‘friendly’ Show.

Rural Craft Award

ThatchThe Melplash Agricultural Society is launching a new competition for Rural Crafts.  The competition will be open to craftsmen and women living within a twelve mile radius of Melplash Church and who derive their livelihood or a greater part of it from their craft.   Entrants will be judged in the summer months working on site or in the workshop.  Pictured is Guy Gale thatching the ridge of Rose Cottage, Netherbury with Ian Hobday his assistant.

2013 Garden Competition

2013 GARDEN & ALLOTMENT COMPETITION

If the longer days and brighter weather (when not raining!) is inspiring you to get out into the garden, why not get your hard work rewarded and enter the 2013 Melplash Agricultural Society Garden Competition.   There is a category to suit everyone including, after a successful pilot last year, an allotment competition.

There are three garden categories and this year we are adding a new category just for allotments.  Judging for the competition will be Tuesday 18th & Wednesday 19th June 2013.  The competition is free to enter and open to everyone who lives within 12 miles radius of Melplash Village Church.  There are prizes for best small, medium and large gardens and best allotment.

Young Farmers Stock Judging

This year our annual Stock Judging competition will be held on Tuesday 9th July 2013 at Wooth Farm, near Bridport (DT6 5LE) by kind permission of Mr & Mrs Frank Greenway.

The competiton is open to Young Farmers, click here to download an entry form.

There are 3 classes for Juniors, Intermediates and Seniors.  This year our judge is Mrs Jane Targett of Castle Cary, Somerset.  The evening starts at 7.30pm and spectators are welcome.

HANDICRAFTS, HORTICULTURE & HOME PRODUCE COMPETITIONS – SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE AT THIS YEAR’S MELPLASH SHOW

childrens_vehicle_out_of_vegThe handicrafts, horticulture and home produce competition classes have long been one of the highlights of the Melplash Show and this year will be no exception.  They are the perfect opportunity for people of all ages and talents to showcase their creativity and hobbies.  This year, as always, the Society Section Chairpersons and their team of helpers have put together an action packed line-up to appeal to both participants and attendees.  Whether you grow vegetables, flowers, paint, draw, sew or bake there is a category for you; and classes for children as well as adults.
